As many of you remember from last holiday season, I shared with you my family’s holiday traditions through pictures here on the blog. Your recent Facebook messages and emails really opened my eyes up to just how much you all enjoyed getting a glimpse into our lives. Thank you.
So, this year, I am going to document the season once again, but this time around it will be a bit different. I am currently enrolled in a guided class by Tracey Clark called Picture the Holidays (see the creed below) in the hopes to truly take in the spirit of this time of year, to play around with photography just for me, and to reflect on what this season is all about.
I am embarking on this journey of personal expression with an open heart and a desire to rediscover what made me fall in love with photography in the first place. I am excited to see where my vision and my daily meditations take me. Please join me in this discovery of my heart with me. I can’t wait to see what unfolds! (And I promise, I will get a picture of my mantle up for those of you who have asked, really soon!)
Day one: Holding onto Gratitude
After some alone silence this morning and a few settling deep breaths, I focused on my heart. I opened it up wide, let light like the warm sunshine spread throughout my soul, and began to feel the overwhelming feeling of gratitude radiate throughout my being.
Thankfulness for my home, my family, our pets, our health, food on the table, shoes on our feet. Basics, but extremely necessary, and things we take for granted from minute to minute.
Grateful for a job I love, the people who make it so memorable, and for the blessing of being so near to God through the tiniest of blessings that I interact with frequently.
Friends…those whom I hold so dear to my heart. The women who encourage, support, and cheer me on. The women whom I call sisters, who walk this path with me…through good and bad. People we choose to have in our lives and who choose to have us in theirs. My girls. (and a few good men in there, too!)
Deeper and deeper…abundance beyond measure.
Once I was in this space, I began to envision what this feeling, this immense emotion, would look like…..overflowing into every path of my life.
Then, it was there. My cup overflowing, and with it…immense gratitude.
I am glad that my kiddos were at school, and the hubs at work, because I could tell from the look my dog was giving me while I was taking a hundred pictures to get this shot, that I looked a bit crazy. Haha. I don’t know how environmentally friendly this capture was either, as the tap ran for some time, but….I feel that today…day one, was a success….and for that, I will have to add yet another item to my list of overflowing gratitude.
Take some time to truly enjoy the holidays this year. Give to yourself for a bit, and you will never go wrong.
